Lancia presented 4×4 prototype at the 1982 Turin Motor Show. The prototype kept the original model's basic mechanicals, but it had a 1600 cc engine supercharged by turbocompressor, delivering an output of 130 HP. Permanent transmission to all four wheels was obtained by adding a torque-splitter with longitudinal drive for rear-wheel transmission to the original gearbox-differential unit. A two-section shaft transmits drive to the self-locking rear differential. The most important novelty from the Lancia Experimental Workshop was this torque-splitter differential which was inserted into the engine/transverse gearbox unit and the crown wheel and pinion for transmission to the rear wheels.
