Unveiled at the 1965 Turin Motor Show, the Lamborghini P400 chassis appeared as a bare, lightweight structure, showcasing a radical engineering concept rather than a finished car. Constructed from folded steel sheet with extensive lightening holes and weighing around 120 kg, it featured a transversely mounted 4.0‑litre V12 integrated with the gearbox behind the cabin. Developed by Dallara, Stanzani and Wallace, its innovative layout anticipated a new generation of high-performance road cars inspired by racing technology. After attracting strong interest from coachbuilders, Lamborghini entrusted the body design to Bertone, whose collaboration transformed the chassis into the production Miura unveiled in Geneva in 1966.
