On 20 May 2000, the first Krone forage harvester prototype badged BiG X was officially presented to the public. It was a 40km/h high-speed version that was powered by a 540hp engine. The machine featured a future-minded styling. The BiG X prototype was built in 1999 and finished in early 2000. Its individual functions and features, especially the new electronic system, were taken into operation sequentially. Then, on 20 May 2000 the roll-out took place.

The prototype was powered by two synchronised six-cylinder engines that delivered a rated output of about 1000hp.
